1st July 2023
Encyclis has appointed Mark Corben as Chief Financial Officer, with an effective date of 1st July 2023, as the company continues to expand its European platform under the ownership of EQT.
As CFO, Mark will lead the company’s financial strategy as the business completes its transition from being a division of Covanta, the leading operator of EFW plants in the US, to a free-standing European operation. This follows the legal separation of the US and European operations in July 2022 and the rebranding of Covanta Europe to Encyclis in January 2023.
Mark began his career training as a Chartered Accountant at PwC before moving on to investment banking, where he spent 17 years at UBS advising on a range of transactions in the power and utility sectors.
Since then, Mark has served as CFO at asset-backed businesses including Tideway and enfinium. He also spent time as a senior industrial advisor to the Department of Energy and Industrial Strategy, one of the predecessors of the new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Encyclis CEO Owen Michaelson said: “We are pleased to welcome Mark Corben to the business as our new CFO. His experience in the waste and energy sectors, culminating in his most recent role with enfinium, will be a valuable addition to our team as we continue to deliver on our business plan, building an expanding portfolio of best-in-class energy recovery facilities in the UK, Ireland and Italy.
On his appointment, Mark Corben said: “I am delighted to be joining Encyclis at this exciting time for the business, having recently brought our fourth facility online with the start of full-scale operations at Newhurst in Leicestershire. We have three further projects in the pipeline, including the Protos ERF which has been selected to progress under the Government’s cluster sequencing programme for carbon capture and storage. This puts Encyclis at the forefront of industrial decarbonisation in the Energy-from-Waste sector and forms an important part of our sustainability strategy. It is a privilege to be part of a team at the forefront of thought leadership and carbon reduction in our sector.”
