Our energy recovery facilities provide communities with a form of sustainable waste treatment. Energy-from-Waste is integral to modern waste management in most developed countries, enabling residual waste to be diverted from disposal and put to good use through the recovery of resources.
Residual waste is safely and sustainably treated
Through a carefully controlled combustion process, residual waste is safely and sustainably treated. The production of electricity and heat, and recovery of materials including ash and metals, contributes to the reduction of waste being sent to landfill.
Encyclis is proud to operate a fleet of facilities in England that have all achieved R1 status – a measurement of how efficiently they recover resources from waste. The awarding of R1 status is based on calculations that take into account factors such as plant efficiency, energy export performance and energy input requirements.
These criteria are carefully assessed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Energy-from-Waste facilities that do not achieve R1 status are classed as disposal facilities on the basis that they do not contribute to sustainable waste treatment. Our operations are optimised to ensure sustainable use of resources.
Or facilities have been designed to eradicate the discharge of water from processes where water can be effectively recirculated and reused.
We also collaborate closely with our supply chain partners to influence the composition of waste delivered to our plants. Removal of plastic from residual waste streams is an activity we strongly support.
Our performance on sustainability is important not only at national and international level but also to the local communities in which we operate. We work closely with host communities to minimise our environmental impact with diligent management of traffic, emissions and natural resources.
